1 - Fasted cardio

Fasting in its simplest form is refraining from consuming any calories for a short period of time. Fasted cardio is one of the most effective ways to get rid of that stubborn body fat.

There are numerous health benefits to fasting properly but in regards to fat loss one of the major ones is the following: Once your body is in a fasted state, insulin levels are at a low baseline level. In this state it has been...

This program will flatten your waistline, help you lose weight, build strength, and tone muscles. Most people start seeing results in 10 to 14 days. Results will accelerate once the process begins. I have worked this program with scores of people over the last 25 years and they never failed to get results, "if they practiced the discipline".

Do not get caught up in diets; they never work in the long term. They deprive you of ev...

Clean eating is a concept that is growing fast and gaining a lot of momentum in the areas of dieting and fitness. The overall health benefits are amazing when you focus on the contents and origins of the food that is going into your body. When this type of eating is combined with a good calorie count and a disciplined exercise program, you are sure to get the fitness results that you are looking for.

Falling into the category o...

I’m often asked what supplements I use daily for dieting and training purposes. Before I dive into supplements, I want to stress how important it is to be eating the right foods, otherwise taking supplements will be counterproductive. I encourage everyone to do their blood work, and to check their vitamin/mineral levels periodically as well.

Now, let’s talk supplements. Below is everything that I supplement my program with as w...

Starting a diet can be scary. You may be someone who has just recently put on a few extra pounds, or you could be like me and have struggled with your weight for years. I've been on diet after diet and was plagued with the “yo yo” effect of lose then gain, often gaining back more than I lost. In the beginning of 1989 I found myself weighing 425lbs and felt completely defeated, and was fooled by the notion that I was just meant...

My wife keeps telling me that I should totally retire. I can't do that because it is so rewarding to be a small part of an organization like "Lords Gym" and see the positive influence it is having on so many lives.

Most of the clients I take have traveled many miles on life's highway and have varying degrees of medical issues. The HIPAA law precludes me from sharing many details, but here are a few examples that I have witnesse...

I am semi-retired and only work with a limited number of people. Being certified in medical exercises, many of my clients have medical issues. I wish I could share, in detail, some of their stories but confidentiality prohibits that. Some are truly inspiring individuals.

There are some individuals at our gym and others that I have worked with over the years, that have defied the odds and avoided diagnosed surgeries and joint re...

To those that have experienced or are experiencing major medical issues, let me offer this hope. In the near 20 years that I have had my medical exercise certification, I have been blessed to work with some people that would not accept defeat. Through cancers, joint replacements, heart & lung conditions, I have seen the miracle that the mind can produce by adopting a positive "can-do" attitude.

Those that would not throw in the...

It is a privilege to be a very small part of what is happening at The Lord’s Gym. The management and all their volunteers have a sincere commitment to providing a quality, affordable gym for the people of Oroville.

There is science to prove that keeping a healthy body contributes to a healthy mind.  Many studies have shown that a good exercise regimen can slow down the aging process as well as slowing -- and in some cases rever...

This month, we want to recognize Rosa, our Zumba instructor. Her passion and positivity are contagious, and she brings joy and energy wherever she goes. The Lord’s Gym wouldn’t be the same without her!

Rosa was born and raised in Mexico City. She came to the United States when she was 19 years old. She studied Spanish and minored in Russian and music at Brigham Young University in Utah. She then served in St Petersburg, Russia...

I've heard married couples say, "The first fifty years are the hardest." Fortunately adjusting to  your workout routines doesn't take that long, IF YOU MAKE IT FUN. So many people, literally, go "by the book" using an exercise card to record, weight, reps., & sequences. Besides interrupting a good work out & boring the heck out of you, I see minimal benefit in this.

A year later they are still following the same routine, bu...

We want to celebrate Sugih, one of our awesome personal trainers. She helps people in our community by empowering them to make healthy choices in the areas of nutrition and fitness. She is a ray of sunshine, and we are fortunate to have her in our midst.

Sugih was born in Indonesia, and she moved to the United States in 1996. She came from a hospitality / hotel background and used to work a lot of hours. She realized that she h...

Vera is one of our friendliest members; she always smiles at the volunteers and loves to chat with us. She has been a dedicated and consistent member since she joined the Lord’s Gym in 2013. She is top notch and a real sweetheart, and we want to acknowledge and honor her.

Vera first started working out when she joined the army in 1996. However, due to leg injury, she left the army in 2009 and couldn't work out very much for abo...

1. Start somewhere!

If you are new to training or exercising, then it is important to set measurable and realistic goals. It is hard to jump from no regular exercise to training for two hours every day of the week. But it is much more feasible to start with just 30 minutes three times a week. Also, increase the intensity of your workout incrementally. You might not be able to do inclined running or lift 235 lbs right away, but...
